Just Surrender - “She Broke My Heart, So I Broke His Jaw”

This song comes from the group’s first full length, If These Streets Could Talk, but still lingers in my head as fresh as ever. This is the kind of early millennium pop rock/punk that is fueled with such strong emotions that you can’t help, but hit “replay” again and again. Bands like Man Overboard, The Wonder Years, and Transit are keeping music this passionate alive and fresh, but Just Surrender will always have a spot in my heart along with this album.

I will note, Just Surrender has an awesome new album due out in August, that gives you two months to fall in love with If These Streets Could Talk and the follow-up We’re In Like Sin.

Averman - “Sweep The Leg”

Let’s start a fresh hundred posts with a fresh faced band. Averman hails from Virginia Beach and plays Realist Pop Punk [my favorite term and genre of 2010]. Their entire EP can be streamed on UTG right now and their Myspace is pretty classy, but all you need to know is that this song is awesome. It not only has anthem written all over it, but the words hit home HARD. I’m sure many of you will feel the same way. ENJOY!

“I warn you that I’m not perfect or exciting from the start”

…Who would’ve guessed three naked dudes and a porn star would change my life forever?

This video is the reason I got into music. No lie. Before this song hit the airwaves, I had no real game plan for life [I was 11, gimme a break], but then I saw this video, which lead to me buying Enema of the State, which made me fall in love with music. As a result of that, I now have a degree in Music Industry Management under my belt, 7 years of booking, touring, street team, marketing, and publicity experience in the industry, and UTG [which we all have in a way].

Man Overboard - “While You Were Sleeping”

One of the hardest working bands in America right now, these realist pop punkers recall an earlier time in the punk/emo scene by blending the lyrical sincerity of The Get Up Kids and early Dashboard Confessional with the raw emotion of Brand New’s Your Favorite Weapon or The Ataris’ Blue Skies, Broken Hearts. Clocking in at just over two minutes, this track should solidify your crush on the band pretty well.

“…I hope you miss the way we feels when we wake up together; I’m going to”

Nemes - “Hooray [I Can’t Sing It To Her]

Some of my best friends and a great band as well, Nemes has finally recorded some new songs. They’re releasing their new acoustic EP shortly, but I thought I’d post a song to get you excited. This is a new one, hope you love it.

Crucial Dudes - “Small, Bent, And Ugly”

Need a new realist pop punk act to fall in love with? Look no further than Crucial Dudes.

I realize now my voice can only go so far,
but I’ll never stop believing.
No, I’ll never stop singing.”

The Ataris - “All Soul’s Day”

I hope 2011 is the year The Ataris finally release the album they’ve been teasing us with for over two years now. Until then, we have this new(ish) track that showcases exactly what made the band great: lyrical depth and better-than-average pop punk/rock. I think the last record definitely had ups and downs, but it’s near impossible to find something you can’t love in this song.

enjoy.

A Loss For Words - “Hold Your Breath”

Great song.
Even better band.

Live It Out - “I Don’t Know”

I manage this band. If you don’t know them, you should. This is what pop punk is all about and they’ll be taking the world by storm in no time.
